Sports capture the essence of the personal effort
you put in to achieve a goal. This poem/song was written in the
course of my advertising career, for a marathon event sponsored
by a client.
Running a marathon is a lonely process even when so many are running
by your side.
Because success is an individual endeavour. Even among the cheers
and the crowds, you're running alone. You're driven by a dream,
a passion that's your very own.
And when the race is over, it isn't over. For your own aspirations
will drive you to the next milestone.
Feel the excitement in the air
charged with emotion;
Listen to your heartbeat pick up speed,
Feel the tension
and then you're off and away,
running together
shoulder to shoulder ---
Because the world is running
right by your side,
Feel that rhythm in your stride!
It's hard to go on, mile after mile,
but in the long run,
If your heart dares to dream,
then nothing will seem
Impossible for you
Feel the excitement mount,
pick up the pace, now you're flying
You know you can do it,
You know you can prove it
and nothing else seems to count
The crowds fade away,
the shouts fade away,
and suddenly
You've got to outpace
You've got to outrace
Nobody but yourself!
The cheers fill the air
But you don't seem to care
because you've done it!
It's jubilation time
It's celebration time
And you deserve it!
But in your heart you know
That after the show
You'll be pushing the pace
For another dream, another race,
And you've got what it takes
You've got what it takes
To make it to the top again.
